Men's Hockey: Junior leads by example

One is a little bit quiet. One is small in stature, and the third has a sharp wit. But put the three leading scorers on the women’s hockey team on skates, and they can all be described similarly.Fast. Aggressive. Good.Sophomores Sally Butler, Denna Laing and Olivia Mucha lead the team first-second-third in points and assists this season. They combine for 17 of the team’s 33 goals and 20 of the 55 assists. As freshmen, the trio tallied 26 goals last season, and Mucha tied for the team lead in points.
The women’s hockey team came out on the losing side of two shutouts against the league leaders this weekend, falling to Quinnipiac at Baker Rink on Friday night and again on the road on Saturday afternoon. With the pair of losses, the Tigers dropped back below .500 in conference play but remain tied for sixth in the standings.
The women’s hockey team is back on track after a weekend sweep of Brown and Yale. The Tigers, who snapped a six-game losing streak, improved to 5-4-1 in ECAC Hockey play (6-7-1 overall) and moved up one slot in the conference standings to sixth place by beating Yale 5-1 and Brown 3-0.
The women’s hockey team will look to end its six-game skid this weekend when it takes on the Yale Bulldogs and the Brown Bears on the Tigers’ first Ivy road trip of the season. The Tigers (4-7-1 overall, 3-4-1 ECAC) began the season with a strong 4-1-1 record but have since lost six straight and fallen to a tie for sixth in the ECAC.
Penalties and power plays were the three big “P”s at Baker Rink this weekend, and the women’s hockey team came out on the losing side. The Tigers fell to No. 3 Cornell 3-1 on Friday and lost to Colgate 3-0 on Saturday, extending their losing streak to four games.
Following a tough pair of losses last weekend against ECAC Hockey foes St. Lawrence and Clarkson, the women’s hockey team will be looking to get back on track tonight at Baker Rink. The Tigers will take on No. 3 Cornell tonight at 7 p.m., followed by Colgate on Saturday.
The sophomore trio is at it again. Led by sophomore forwards Olivia Mucha, Sally Butler and Denna Laing, the women’s hockey team swept two Ivy League opponents last weekend at Baker Rink to remain undefeated in ECAC Hockey play.
The Yale women’s volleyball team would love to return to a single moment on Friday night. It was game three. Each team had won one game apiece. The score was 13-13, and Yale had just called a timeout. Neither team had led a set by more than four points throughout the entire match. It was anyone’s match for the taking. And the Tigers took it.
For the women’s volleyball team, this weekend’s homestand could make or break its hopes of topping the Ivy League. The Tigers (11-6 overall, 4-1 Ivy League) will take on one of the best and one of the worst teams in the league, facing Yale (11-4, 5-0) on Friday and Brown (5-11, 1-4) on Saturday at Dillon Gymnasium.
