Wrestling: Krop’s Midlands performance highlights grapplers’ strong run

Princeton’s wrestlers kept busy over the break with impressive performances at the Midlands Championships tournament at Northwestern at the end of December and a quad meet at Pittsburgh on Saturday. Sophomore 141-pounder Adam Krop earned himself a top-15 national ranking after a third-place finish at Midlands. The team went 2-1 at this weekend’s meet, clobbering Davidson 48-0 and beating Virginia Military Institute 26-10 before succumbing 23-13 to No. 10 Pittsburgh.

Wrestling: No. 17 Rutgers too strong for hosts

After upsetting Old Dominion last weekend, the wrestling team fell to No. 17 Rutgers this weekend. Only junior Garrett Frey, wrestling at 125 pounds, and senior Daniel Kolodzik, wrestling at 157, won their matches in a 29-7 loss. Still, it was a big improvement from last year’s match, in which Rutgers shut out Princeton 42-0.

Around the Ivies: Top challengers to Princeton’s three-peat bid

The women’s basketball team came sprinting out of the gate this season, preparing to claim a third-consecutive Ivy League title. Princeton (7-1 overall) won its first six games before succumbing 81-70 to unbeaten No. 22 Delaware on Dec. 1. Junior forward Niveen Rasheed has led the team in points, averaging 16.9 per game. Princeton’s defense has led the conference, holding its opponents to only 52.8 points per game and totaling 94 steals. The Tigers have excelled in their non-conference games, leading the Ivy League as they look forward to the start of conference play on Jan. 7.

Men's Soccer: Senior’s goal highlights closing loss

In the silver lining of the men’s soccer team’s disappointing 2-1 loss to Yale on Saturday, senior forward Paolo Iaccarino scored his first career goal with junior goalkeeper Max Gallin notching the assist.

Field Hockey: Huskies to pose tough NCAA test

With a thrilling double-overtime victory against Rider on Tuesday, the field hockey team earned its fourth straight berth in the NCAA tournament. The Tigers will face No. 4 Connecticut this Saturday at 11:30 a.m. in Storrs, Conn.

Despite 12 saves by Brown goalkeeper Shannon McSweeney, senior striker Rachel Neufeld and freshman striker Allison Evans notched two goals each and led the field hockey team to a 6-0 shutout at Brown on Saturday.

It was the Orange against the Black this weekend. The men’s hockey team and the wrestling team faced each other in a “man-off” instead of practice last Saturday morning, with the hockey players dressed in orange and the wrestlers in black. After a series of strength and fitness contests, the hockey team took the title.

After a double-overtime victory against Columbia last Saturday, the field hockey team — led by its two leading scorers, freshman midfielder Sydney Kirby and freshman forward Allison Evans — is poised to build winning momentum in two upcoming non-conference games.
