The end of grade deflation was initially met with delight, then with some skepticism and finally — as with all things unclear and undefined — with confusion.
I found out what a precept was the day before classes were supposed to begin my freshman year. It was during a meeting with my academic adviser, finalizing courses, that the word first went into my ear.
As you approach the building, you see fellow freshmen buzzing around. Some are alone, while others approach with awkwardly assembled friends from OA/CA and zee groups, still not quite there yet in the friendship dynamic but desperately trying.
“You look terrible! How much sleep did you get last night?” This is a weird question to entertain for two reasons.
“So, where are you from?” I was first asked this question during International Orientation.
