The National Book Foundation honored professor of African American Studies Imani Perry’s “South to America: A Journey Below the Mason-Dixon to Understand the Soul of a Nation” with its award in nonfiction. In the book, Perry draws on the stories, figures, and traditions of the American South.

On Thursday, Dec. 1, the Princeton Graduate Student Government (GSG) and Intersecting Queer Identities (IQI)/Queer Graduate Caucus (QGC) hosted a vigil behind the Fountain of Freedom mourning the victims of the Nov. 19 Club Q Shooting in Colorado Springs.

Princeton students gathered in front of Nassau Hall on Nov. 29 in solidarity with those who recently died in an apartment fire in Urumqi in light of China’s restrictive zero-COVID policies. Attendees, which included Chinese international students and prominent human rights activist Teng Biao, sung Chinese protest songs and shared anti-censorship speeches.

At a Nov. 16 meeting, which was an extension of the regular weekly USG meetings held on Sundays, the USG passed a resolution to “condemn and combat antisemitism” and voted to add a referendum on the expansion of gender-neutral bathrooms to the upcoming winter election ballot.

The dining pilot was officially announced today in an email by Chris Burkmar of Campus Life and Maureen McWhirter of University Services following over a month of student-wide discussions. According to the new web page, it aims to promote “fluidity” in the upperclass student dining experience.

During the event, protestors stayed in a taped 7 by 9 foot square, the typical size of a solitary confinement cell. The protest lasted for 23 hours, gesturing to the 23 hours a day that people in solitary confinement must stay in their cells.
