Slaughter wins vote from unofficial presidential search website

Princetonpresident.com, a website created by visiting professor Mark Alexander and his American Studies class to gather suggestions regarding the University's presidential search process, named former Wilson School dean Anne-Marie Slaughter ’80 the winning candidate of the website’s voting process. Alexander and his class, AMS 313: The Law of Democracy, now plan to present their findings to the official presidential search committee in the coming weeks.

More than 2,500 students attended Basshunter Silent Disco, USG says

Between 2,500 and 2,700 students attended the USG’s “Silent Disco” Dean’s Date celebration on Tuesday in Dillon Gymnasium, according to USG social chair Benedict Wagstaff ’14.The event featured performances by DJ duo The Jane Doze and Swedish DJ Basshunter. While some students complained about the quality of the headphones and the line to return them at the end of the night, many students said they enjoyed the unique ambience of the event.

Women's Hockey: Princeton drops pair of road games

Returning to ECAC competition for the first time in five weeks, the women's hockey team dropped two road games this weekend to No. 2 Harvard and Dartmouth. The Tigers (6-12-2 overall, 2-10-2 ECAC) are currently in eighth place in the conference with six points, and the outcome of all their future ECAC games will help determine which teams qualify for the postseason tournament. Qualifying spots are still very much up for grabs, as Princeton presently sits just two points above Colgate and Brown and three points above Union and Yale.

Gruenberg ’75 directs expanded FDIC

Martin J. Gruenberg '75, who was appointed chairman of the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation by President Obama last November, presides over an agency whose powers have expanded greatly since the financial crisis of 2008. As Obama begins his second term and the country slowly recovers from the recession, Gruenberg suggested that his job as a financial regulator is more central to the administration's goals than ever.

Princeton-Blairstown Center to become officially independent of U.

Beginning July 1, the Princeton-Blairstown Center, a recreation and wildlife center serving the University and the surrounding community, will cease to be classified as a supporting organization of the University. The Center's independence will allow it to increase its focus on its mission of serving urban youth of the New York and New Jersey region.

U. to review arms petition

A petition urging the University to divest its holdings in companies involved with the production of firearms will be formally reviewed by the Resources Committee in February. The petition, written by faculty members, was inspired by reactions to the Dec. 14 shooting in Newtown, Conn., and specifically references firearms similar to those used in the shooting.
