Tower numbers drop while overall fall Bicker figures remain steady

Tower Club, the most popular club for the fall Bicker season last year, saw its number of bickerees drop by almost half this year, from 66 students in 2012 to 34 this year. The drop returned fall bicker levels to normal, as last year's 66 bickerees was a 75 percent increase over the 38 who bickered in fall 2011. Despite the drop affecting Tower, a total of 125 students bickered clubs this fall, just a dozen short of the 137 students who bickered last September.

Resources Committee finds PCER proposal for transparency “unwieldy”

The Resources Committee called recommendations for greater transparency by the student group Princeton Coalition for Endowment Responsibility “unwieldy, unnecessarily complicated and inconsistent” with policies of the University, Princeton University Investment Company and Board of Trusteesin a report released this summer. In its November 2012 proposal, PCER asked the Resources Committee to alter the way in which it reviews and considers University investment decisions, especially in terms of representation in the committee and transparency. PCER’s proposal requested access to the University’s investment information in order to facilitate “sustained campus interest” in investment issues.

Post-revolution turmoil in the Middle East is a natural effect of creating new democracies, not a sign that the Arab Spring was unsuccessful, Tunisian president Moncef Marzouki argued in a lecture about the challenges facing his country’s new democracy on Thursday afternoon. Observers of the Arab World should be patient before drawing conclusions about the success of the Arab Spring because revolutions take time to effect change, he noted. “Democracy is a process; it’s continuous experimentation,” Marzouki said in an exclusive interview with The Daily Princetonian before the lecture.
