The body of missing student Lauren Blackburn ’26 was found at Lake Carnegie on the morning of April 25, according to an email from Regan Crotty, Dean of Undergraduate Students.
Blackburn was last seen on April 19 in the vicinity of Firestone Library. A water search began late Monday night after a missing person’s phone — presumably Blackburn’s — was found to be pinging near Lake Carnegie.
A gathering will be held at 5 p.m. in the New College West Head of College House, where “[d]eans from the Office of Religious Life, counselors from Counseling and Psychological Services, and residential college staff will be available,” Crotty shared in the email.
A member of New College West, Blackburn was an English major and a recipient of the 2024 Sam Hutton Fund for the Arts. He graduated from a high school in Indiana and was 23 years old at the time of his death.
Blackburn’s death is the third undergraduate death in two years, and the seventh since 2021. All six undergraduate deaths prior to Blackburn’s have been ruled suicides. The email from Crotty does not include a cause of death for Blackburn.
