Male streaker dances through Cottage Club

An approximately 20-year-old white male allegedly danced naked in the University Cottage Club dining hall on Friday evening, police said Tuesday.

Police alleged that the individual danced until he was confronted by a Cottage employee. He then fled the club in an unknown direction, police said.

No arrest has been made. The Princeton Police has opened an investigation into the incident, according to Princeton Police Captain Nick Sutter.

“He ran in dancing and ran out,” Sutter said. Sutter added that he did not know if there was any specific motivation for the act.

The incident occurred during the same time period in which Terrace members are asked to perform “offerings,” or tasks that new members are asked to complete before they are initiated into the club.

Terrace members confirmed that one such task involved being naked at Cottage. It is not clear if this particular lewdness incident is linked to the task.

Terrace president Neal Donnelly ’14 declined to comment. Outgoing Cottage president William Minshew ’13 did not respond to a request for comment.

In an email sent to new members on Feb. 12, Donnelly described the regulations related to the tasks.

“Let me be entirely clear — you must complete your offering,” the email read. Although the email said feeling uncomfortable with the task was not in itself a reason for reassignment, the email also explained that the tasks could potentially be switched for religious reasons, strong moral objections or allergies.

The email detailed that the tasks could take the form of a creation, an action or a performance. In the case of an action or performance, new members should execute it and “acquire video evidence,” the email read.

The incident was reported directly to the Princeton Police by a witness in Cottage and did not go through the University’s Department of Public Safety. In the past, instances of lewdness involving nudity that were reported to Public Safety have resulted in campus-wide emails alerting the University community about the incident. No such email had been sent as of Wednesday night.
