University alumnus and former New York governor Eliot Spitzer ’81 announced on Sunday that his progressive television talk show, “Viewpoint,” is ending.
Spitzer’s program has aired on Current TV, the cable news network founded by former U.S. Vice President Al Gore and businessman Joel Hyatt, since March 2012. Spitzer’s show replaced “Countdown with Keith Olbermann” after the host was fired.
The announcement of the talk show’s termination follows Current TV’s purchase by the Qatar-based media broadcaster Al Jazeera. Until further notice, “Viewpoint” will be hosted by John Fugelsang, a comedian who currently hosts the talk show “So That Happened.”
Spitzer, who served as USG chairman while an undergraduate at Princeton, was governor of New York from 2006 to 2008. He resigned after admitting to liaisons with prostitutes. Since resigning, he has spoken at the University, written regular columns for the online magazine Slate and hosted a CNN political discussion program from 2010 to 2011.
