News & Notes: After Harvard cheating scandal, Yale discourages take-home exams

Following the news that 125 Harvard students unfairly collaborated on a take-home exam, Yale College Dean Mary Miller '75 recommended to Yale faculty that they not distribute take-home exams during this semester’s finals period, according to the Yale Daily News.

While Miller noted in the email to faculty that the school already discouraged these types of examinations, she chose to again emphasize the university’s preference for in-class examinations following the scandal.

The cheating scandal in Cambridge also left an imprint in Princeton. Harvard administrators have looked to Princeton’s Honor Code as a potential solution for the future, and a portion of the first meeting of the Council of the Princeton University Community this year discussed academic integrity.

Each year during midterms and finals, the Honor Committee emails the undergraduate student body explaining the protocol for conduct on University examinations.

Due to a reporting error, a previous version of this article omitted the class year of Yale College Dean Mary Miller '75. The 'Prince' regrets the error.
