Senior defensive linemen Caraun Reid and Mike Catapano were named to two Football Championship Subdivision All-America teams this week. The Associated Press named Catapano to its second team and Reid to its third team on Wednesday; The Sports Network made Reid a second-team selection and Catapano a third-teamer.
Reid, a defensive tackle who was named a third-team preseason All-America by The Sports Network, had 5.5 sacks and 9.5 tackles for loss in nine games this season, blocking three kicks for the second straight year. Catapano led the Ivy League with 12 sacks and was named the league’s Defensive Player of the Year.
The two seniors — who joined Harvard tight end Kyle Juszczyk, Yale running back Tyler Varga and Cornell offensive lineman J.C. Tretter on All-America teams — were Princeton’s first All-America selections in six years. Both players could have a chance to play at the professional level after graduation; Catapano will have an opportunity to impress NFL scouts at the East-West Shrine Game, an all-star showcase for draft prospects, on Jan. 19.
