Women’s Hockey: Tigers struggle in ECAC play

The women’s hockey team earned one point from two games in upstate New York last weekend, losing to No. 2 Cornell 4-0 and tying Colgate 3-3 on the road. Princeton (2-3-1 overall, 0-3-1 ECAC Hockey) has yet to win a game in conference play, as the draw with Colgate snapped a three-game losing streak.

The Tigers were dominated by Cornell, last year’s ECAC champion, as they managed only 10 shots to the Big Red’s 45. The hosts needed only one minute to take the lead for good, when Jillian Saulnier scored her first of two goals.

Princeton fell behind Colgate 2-0, but junior forward Denna Laing broke the Tigers’ scoreless streak midway through the second period. Junior forward Sally Butler evened the game just 31 seconds later and then answered a Raiders goal with her second in the third frame.

The Tigers return to New York this weekend to face Rensselaer and Union.

Fencing: Levin, Stones place at Penn State

In the first college meet of her career, freshman saberist Gracie Stone finished second at the Penn State Garret Open. Her sister, senior Eliza Stone, was right behind her in third place, while junior Eve Levin took third in foil.

On the men’s side, Princeton’s best weapon was epee, as senior Jonathan Yergler and freshman Jack Hudson took fourth and fifth, respectively. The teams will compete next at the Vassar Duals on Dec. 1.
