Senior Matija Pecotic and freshman Amanda Muliawan will begin play at the USTA/ITA National Indoor Intercollegiate Championships in New York today. Both players will be aiming to end their fall seasons on a high note in their competitive 32-player tournaments.
Pecotic drew the No. 3 seed in the men’s event, becoming the first Ivy League player to be seeded in the tournament since Harvard’s James Blake in 1999. He will face Virginia’s Mac Styslinger on Thursday; if he wins, his Round of 16 and quarterfinal matches would both be played on Friday, with the semifinal and championship rounds on Saturday and Sunday.
The senior is 22-1 in fall play this season and earned his ticket to the event by reaching the semifinals of the ITA All-America Championships in October.
Muliawan received a bid to the women’s tournament after winning the USTA/ITA Northeast Regional last month. She will face Danielle Collins of Florida this afternoon.
