Senior Matija Pecotic of the men’s tennis team continued a stellar fall season last weekend, winning the main singles draw of the Texas Fall Invitational. Pecotic, who entered the tournament as the second seed, won four matches without losing a set to claim his fourth individual title of the fall.
After receiving a bye in the first round, Pecotic dropped Texas Christian University’s J.T. Sundling on Friday and beat a pair of players from Oklahoma the following day to reach the final. Playing against a third Sooner, Dane Webb, in the championship round, Pecotic won two tiebreakers for a 7-6, 7-6 victory.
Three other Tigers competed in the main singles event. Junior Augie Bloom, senior Matt Spindler and sophomore Zack McCourt each lost first-round matches on Friday. Pecotic and McCourt reached the quarterfinals of the doubles bracket before losing to Oklahoma’s top-seeded duo of Webb and Costin Paval.
Pecotic will conclude his fall season at the USTA/ITA Championships in New York next weekend.
