Regarding “Forum highlights local disapproval” (Monday, November 12, 2012)
I was disappointed to read in The Daily Princetonian about a recent meeting in which town representatives spoke of the apparent lack on the part of the University in having active communication and showing interest in the local community. The students are clearly missing out on part of their education. Two of our children graduated from Northwestern University, where local community service was actively pursued and strongly encouraged by the school administration. I was impressed. Being secluded in an academic, non-involved environment does not do much to teach young people about responsibilities and values related to the “community” out there.
