Women's Soccer: Hoy nets 3rd hat trick in 6-1 win

Senior forward Jen Hoy notched her third hat trick of the 2012 season, lifting the women’s soccer team to a 6-1 victory over Lehigh at Roberts Stadium on Tuesday night. The Tigers (8-3-1 overall, 3-0 Ivy League) extended their win streak to six games and now have the best overall record in the Ivy League.

In one game, Hoy leapt from 10th to a tie for second in Princeton’s record book for single-season scoring, with 14 goals through a dozen games so far in 2012. The senior trails all-time leader Esmeralda Negron ’05 by six goals with five regular-season games left to play.

Hoy opened the scoring eight minutes into Tuesday’s contest, following up a shot by senior forward Lauren Lazo and poking it into the net. Twelve minutes later, the conference scoring leader struck again off of a deep ball by senior defender Alison Nabatoff. Nabatoff, a 2009 Ivy League co-Rookie of the Year, collected her second assist of her career, both of which have come in the past week.

After her shot set up Princeton’s first goal, Lazo got one of her own in the 30th minute, and sophomore forward Liana Cornacchio followed with another to make the halftime score 4-0.

Hoy completed her trio early in the second half, and even with many of their subs in the game, the Tigers continued to control play. Four days after scoring her first career goal, sophomore defender Lynessa McGee netted her second and Princeton’s sixth. The Mountain Hawks (2-11) struck in the waning minutes, but the game was well decided.

The Tigers continued their recent run of non-conference domination; in their last three games outside the Ancient Eight, they are 3-0 by a combined score of 17-4. Princeton is also perfect in league play despite much closer margins; it will put that mark on the line on Saturday when it visits Columbia.
