Tennis: Pecotic, Muliawan win singles titles

Princeton tennis players swept the men’s and women’s singles championships at the USTA/ITA Regional this week. Senior Matija Pecotic beat Columbia’s Winston Lin in three sets to claim the men’s championship at Yale, while freshman Amanda Muliawan won the women’s event at Army by beating Columbia’s Kanika Vaidya in straight sets.

With their victories, both players received automatic invitations to the USTA/ITA National Indoor Championships in two weeks, though Pecotic had already secured a bid with a semifinal run at the ITA All-America tournament earlier this month.Muliawan dropped only one set in the six-round tournament, extending her win streak to 10 straight matches. She and sophomore Lindsay Graff won their first four doubles matches before falling 8-2 in the semifinals.On the men’s side, Pecotic teamed with sophomore Zack McCourt to reach the semifinals before losing 8-4 to Yale’s Daniel Hoffman and Marc Powers. Pecotic and McCourt won doubles titles at the Farnsworth Invitational and the USTA Invitational in September.

Women’s Soccer: Tigers win 9th straight

The women’s soccer team won its ninth straight game Monday night, beating La Salle 2-1 in overtime. After trailing in a game for the first time since September, the Tigers (11-3-1 overall, 5-0 Ivy League) came back to win on a sudden-death score by senior forward Jen Hoy, her 17th goal of the season.
