Sports Shorts: Callahan inducted into U.S. Squash Hall of Fame

Men’s squash head coach Bob Callahan ’77 was inducted into the U.S. Squash Hall of Fame on Wednesday. The ceremony took place in his hometown of Philadelphia during the U.S. Open Squash Championships.

Callahan was a part of three national championship teams at Princeton, including the 1977 squad, of which he was a captain. He took over in 1981 as the team’s head coach, a position he has held for 32 seasons. Under Callahan, the Tigers have posted a .827 overall winning percentage, with more than 300 total wins.

As a coach, the alumnus has led Princeton to three national championships, most notably the 2012 title, which ended Trinity’s 13-year reign atop the college squash world. In the confines of Jadwin Gymnasium, the Tigers overcame a 4-2 deficit with wins in their final three matches to shock the Bantams for the championship.

Callahan has also coached 10 individual national champions, including senior Todd Harrity, who won the 2011 title, and Yasser El Halaby ’06, who won four individual championships.
