The Princeton First Aid and Rescue Squad asked the Township Committee for help obtaining a new facility at the Committee’s meeting on Monday night.
Currently, the squad operates out of a building that was built in 1963. The squad argued that demands for its services have increased significantly over the last 50 years and said the current building is no longer adequate.
The squad has purchased two properties adjacent to its current headquarters on North Harrison Street. The Committee voted unanimously to introduce a zoning ordinance to allow the Squad to build on the property, Planet Princeton reported.
The ordinance will be reviewed by the Regional Planning Board and then returned to the Township Committee for approval.
The squad received more than 2,000 calls in 2011, more than triple the amount it received when it first began operating.
Currently, 35 University students and seven alumni volunteer for the Squad.
