Football: Tigers beat Brown 19-0

The football team beat Brown 19-0 at Princeton Stadium on Saturday afternoon. The Tigers (3-2 overall, 2-0 Ivy League) extended their win streak to three games and beat the Bears (3-2, 0-2) for the first time since 2006; they also ended Brown’s streak of 162 straight games without being shut out, which was an Ivy League record.

Princeton’s first touchdown came midway through the first quarter, when sophomore quarterback Connor Michelsen rolled to his right and then threw the ball backward to Huston, a left tackle. Huston collected the pass and ran 15 yards to the end zone untouched, capping an 80-yard drive.

In the first minute of the second quarter, freshman Nolan Bieck kicked a 21-yard field goal, and the Bears accidentally downed the ensuing kickoff at their own one-yard line. On the first play of the drive, senior defensive lineman Caraun Reid tackled Mark Kachmer in his own end zone for a safety.

The Tigers scored on their first drive of the third quarter, marching 80 yards for their second touchdown of the game. Junior receiver Roman Wilson scampered for 21 yards on a reverse, and on the following play, sophomore running back Will Powers scored an eight-yard touchdown to give the Tigers a 19-0 lead.

Brown threatened late in the quarter, driving to the Tigers’ red zone, but freshman cornerback Anthony Gaffney picked off a first-down pass for his third interception of the season. Junior safety Phillip Bhaya picked off a fourth-quarter pass to end another Brown drive in the hosts’ territory.

Next week, Princeton will take on Homecoming opponent Harvard, the Ivy League favorite.
