Early admission deadline extended for applicants impacted by hurricane

The University will extend the Nov. 1 early application deadline for applicants affected by Hurricane Sandy, the Office of Admission announced on its website Monday afternoon.

“The Office of Admission will be flexible in its Nov. 1 deadline for single-choice early action if Hurricane Sandy or any personal issues are making it difficult or impossible for you to file the appropriate forms. If you need to file late, please submit a brief explanation with your application,” the short note on the website said.

For all students not affected, the deadline remains Nov. 1.

Princeton’s decision follows, but differs from, other Ivies’ decisions to push back their deadline due to the storm. Harvard similarly plans to make case-by-case extensions only for affected students while Yale, Columbia and Cornell extended the deadline for all students to Nov. 5. Penn has extended its deadline to Nov. 6 and Brown to Nov. 7.

Last year, in the first year of its reinstated early application program, the University offered admission to 726 of the 3,443 applicants.
