Tower Bicker numbers jump by 75 percent

Tower received more than double the number of bickerees that any other club received this fall and accepted roughly twice the amount of any other selective club. Of the 66 juniors and seniors who bickered, 21 gained admission to the club, according to Tower president Jamie Joseph ’13.

This year’s 66 bickerees marked a 75 percent increase in the total number of bickerees compared to last fall’s 38.

“It’s great that we’re seeing a lot of kids come out to clubs and bicker,” Joseph said. “It’s always good to see big numbers.”

Joseph said she was not sure why the number increased so dramatically but noted that fall Bicker was more popular this year on the Street as a whole.

In its second Bicker session since it reopened last fall, Cannon accepted 13 of the 19 students who bickered. Of the students accepted, seven were juniors and six were seniors, according to Cannon president Connor Clegg ’14.

In its first Bicker last December, Cannon accepted 138 of 189 students. Cannon did not hold a Bicker session in the spring.

Beyond Cannon and the huge leap in the number of students bickering Tower, Bicker numbers at the other two clubs that hold fall Bicker remained relatively constant.

According to Cap & Gown president Alec Egan ’13, 30 juniors bickered the club and 10 were accepted. Last fall, Cap accepted 15 of 40 students who bickered, a similar acceptance percentage.

Ivy president Jason Ramirez ’13 did not respond to requests for comment, but members of the club said that eight of the 22 students who bickered were accepted. Ivy accepted eight of 19 who bickered last fall.

Cloister Inn, Colonial Club and Quadrangle Club accepted sign-ins this fall. Colonial president Roland Hwang ’13 said approximately 20 students have signed in so far, roughly split between juniors and seniors.

“It’s definitely a solid number, and I’m looking forward to getting more,” Hwang said, adding that he was hoping more juniors in particular would join.

Thirteen students have signed into Cloister Inn between last summer and this fall, according to president Brian Wettach ’13. He added that the club is still accepting new sign-ins.

Quadrangle Club president Katie Knorr ’13 did not respond to requests for comment. Charter Club and Terrace Club are not accepting sign-ins this fall.
