Brown's Simmons named to Princeton Board of Trustees

The day after she retires from Brown University and is succeeded by Wilson School Dean Christina Paxson, outgoing Brown president Ruth Simmons will join Princeton’s Board of Trustees, the University announced Tuesday. Simmons, the first black president in Ivy League history and a vice provost at Princeton for three years in the 1990s, will be one of seven new people to join the Board on July 1.

Venture capitalist Peter Wendell ’72 and pharmaceutical company executive Robert Hugin ’76 will serve eight-year terms on the University’s governing body as charter trustees, while Simmons and John Wynne ’67, the former chief executive of Landmark Communications, which previously owned the Weather Channel, will serve four-year terms as term trustees. Wynne, who previously served as a trustee from 1998 to 2008, will also chair the national Annual Giving committee for two years.

Jaime Ayala ’84, the regional Alumni Schools Committee chair for the Philippines, and Laurence Morse GS ’80, the CEO of the investment management firm Fairview Capital Partners, were elected by alumni to serve four-year terms on the Board. Earlier this month, the University announced that Angela Groves ’12 would also join the Board as a Young Alumni Trustee.

Hugin, Morse, Wendell and Wynne all have prior experience on the executive committee of the University’s Aspire fundraising campaign. Morse and Wendell have also served as a director of the Princeton University Investment Company, which manages the University’s financial portfolio.
