Though Princeton’s (16-14 overall, 9-3 Ivy League) previous two games against Big East opponents ended in dramatic fashion, St. John’s (22-15) took a commanding 4-0 lead after the first two innings. Freshman Danny Thomson surrendered five walks while recording six outs, setting the tone for a game that featured a total of 19 free passes between the two teams.
With the Tigers down 6-2 in the eighth inning, senior center fielder Tom Boggiano stroked a two-run double, halving the lead in his first game back from injury. But the Red Storm struck back with a pair of runs off of senior infielder and pitcher Andrew Whitener, who made his second career appearance on the mound.
Princeton will return to action for a four-game series at Columbia. The two doubleheaders were moved up to Friday and Saturday, instead of Saturday and Sunday, in expectation of poor weather late in the weekend.
