Junior Alex Peyton faced five batters in the bottom of the first inning and allowed hits to all five — one triple and four singles — and was pulled from the game before recording an out. Junior Liza Kuhn fared little better in relief, allowing two inherited runners to score and giving up three more of her own in an eight-run, nine-hit inning.
Kuhn allowed only one run in her final three innings — an unearned tally in the fourth — but the game was well out of reach. Hofstra starter Olivia Galati struck out 11 Tigers without walking any and allowed only one hit, a bunt single by senior center fielder Nicole Ontiveros in the fourth inning. With the Pride leading 9-0 after the top of the fifth, the game was called due to the mercy rule.
Princeton still has a chance at winning the Ivy League South Division, but its hopes are slim. The Tigers must sweep a four-game series at home against Cornell and hope Columbia wins at least three of four games against Penn this weekend.
Correction: Princeton will play Cornell at home this weekend. Next year's four-game series will take place at Cornell.
