News & Notes: Injured woman sues U-Haul and Yale student

According to the Yale Daily News, Yale junior Sarah Short, who was one of two people injured in the accident, is suing for at least $15,000 in damages for the “severe, painful and obvious injuries” she sustained during the accident.

Ross was driving a U-Haul truck carrying beer kegs to his fraternity’s tailgate party before the game on Saturday, Nov. 18, 2011. He lost control of the truck, which swerved and hit the three victims.

In the complaint, Short and her attorney Michael Stratton accuse Ross of negligence and list five possible reasons for the accident, noting that Ross was driving excessively fast and did not honk his horn. In November, Ross’ lawyer said that an “apparent vehicle malfunction” led to the accident, according to the Yale Daily News.

“I don’t think this Ross person is a bad person or should go to jail, but he should take responsibility for what happened here,” Stratton told the Yale Daily News.

The newspaper reported that Short required multiple surgical interventions for injuries to her leg sustained during the crash.
