Editorial: Welcome to Princeton

First and foremost, over the next four years you will be immersed in an unparalleled academic experience, so while you are here this weekend — and because you have no work to do ... yet — you should sit in on some classes to get a taste of what it’s like to be a student here. Princeton’s classes are a fascinating and introspective adventure through time and knowledge, and you will have opportunities to engage your professors and fellow students on topics ranging from the role of Asian Americans in law and literature (ENG224: Asian American Law, Bodies and the Everyday) to what our future leaders need to know about physics and technology (PHY115: Future Physics).

Beyond academics, there are a myriad of extracurricular organizations that are eager to have you join their family. Make sure to stop by the Activities Fair in Dillon Gymnasium to check out all the student groups and hear about what they have done in this past year. In the evening, take a moment to watch the arch sings, where you can admire the awesome architecture at this school while being serenaded by our world-renowned a capella groups.

Since you are away from home, treat this like a vacation, and take time to relax and enjoy life at Princeton. Take a stroll through Prospect Garden. (And feel free to take pictures like a tourist. We promise we won’t judge you — we do it too!) Stop by Murray Dodge, our on-campus cafe that serves free freshly baked cookies and tea between 10 p.m. and 12:30 a.m. every night of the week. You have to also take time to explore the town of Princeton — our personal favorites are the Bent Spoon, Hoagie Haven (Phat Lady or Dirty Sanchez are the way to go) and Small World Coffee.

But the best part of Princeton is the people who make up the vibrant atmosphere of this campus. Meet as many people as your handshakes can keep up with (both prefrosh and current students). Talk to them, and listen to their stories. (Just don’t talk about SAT scores ... promise?) Every student here has an amazing story to tell and a unique perspective to share, and you should cherish every moment you have here on campus to learn and grow with your fellow Princetonians. Friends you make at Preview are sometimes the best friends you will have during your time in the Orange Bubble.

We are so excited for you to make Princeton home for the next four years, and we hope you seize this opportunity to join this family of Princetonians. These three days in the Orange Bubble will give you a taste of the lifetime of friends, laughter and memories that await you here, and we sincerely hope you will join us in the fall to experience Princeton University for yourself.
