News & Notes: Universities seek to reduce bottled water use

The University started the “Drink Local” initiative in 2009, which provides incoming freshmen with reusable water bottles during orientation. Princeton has also installed over 150 “water bottle-filling stations” to provide people on campus with access to filtered water.

Brown banned the sale of water bottles in dining halls in 2010, while Harvard and Dartmouth are currently outfitting new buildings with “hydration stations.” Cornell, Yale and Penn are also currently engaged in campaigns to reduce the amount of waste from bottled water.
