News & Notes: Movie adapted from graphic novel by Rubin '09

Rubin wrote and illustrated “Bolivar,” which will be published in May 2013. It tells the story of a young girl named Sybil who moves to New York City and attempts to befriend Bolivar, her next door neighbor and the world’s last living dinosaur.

“I was amazed,” Rubin said of his reaction upon learning that Warner Bros. would be adapting his novel. “I’m looking forward to finishing the book, and I’m looking forward to seeing the movie.”

Rubin graduated from the University with a degree in art and archaeology. In 2011, he cofounded MNY Group, which makes protective lining for wet floors around pools, in bathrooms and in showers. According to Rubin’s blog, he illustrated the final two installments of the bestselling “Redwall” series.

The film will be produced by Archaia Entertainment, a Los Angeles-based publishing company that is increasingly making forays into the movie-making industry. It will be written and directed by Kealan O’Rourke, a filmmaker who won a best animation prize at last year’s Irish Film and Television Awards.

Rubin said he was not sure when the film would be released.

“These things take time,” he said.
