News & Notes: Head of Dartmouth nominated to run World Bank

While other candidates from other countries have been nominated, Kim is considered the frontrunner according to The New York Times as the position has historically gone to a U.S. nominee. An expert in global health, Kim is known for his leadership role with the organization Partners in Health. In the mid-1990s he worked in Peru to develop a treatment program for multi-drug-resistant tuberculosis.

The first Asian-American to serve as president of an Ivy League school, Kim assumed the Dartmouth presidency in 2009. As president, Kim led a collaborative of universities to address high-risk drinking on college campuses.
