The Harvard administration banned ROTC during the Vietnam War. In recent years, Harvard has justified maintaining the policy because of the U.S. Military’s “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” policy, which Harvard said discriminated against homosexuals. Last December, the U.S. Congress repealed the law, allowing gay men and lesbian women to openly serve in the military.
Princeton has retained its policy of not recognizing its off-campus Army ROTC program as an official student organization.
