The Tigers were invited to the CBI in 2010, winning two games before losing in the semifinals. Princeton defeated Duquesne at home in the first round and won a double-overtime thriller against IUPUI before losing at St. Louis.
Many thought that Princeton, which won eight of its final nine games and boasted some strong non-conference wins, might receive a berth in the 32-team NIT, the premier postseason event aside from the NCAA Tournament. But when the NIT brackets were released on Sunday night, the Tigers’ name was not called.
Penn hosts Quinnipiac in the first round of the CBI on Wednesday, playing either Butler or Delaware if it advances. Yale accepted an invitation to play in the CollegeInsider.com Postseason Tournament and will visit Fairfield — which is led by former Princeton head coach Sydney Johnson ’97 — in the first round.
Harvard, the Ivy League representative in the NCAA Tournament, drew a 12-seed and will face five-seed Vanderbilt in the first round. Last year, Princeton received a 13-seed and nearly upset four-seed Kentucky, which eventually reached the Final Four.
