“The outage is related to an ongoing system upgrade to enhance the performance of our wireless network but the specific reason why that might have led to the malfunction is still being determined,” Mbugua said.
He said he hoped that the University would have a better understanding of the breakdown by Wednesday.
Further connectivity problems were reported across campus on Tuesday morning. Mbugua said that Tuesday’s outage took place around 11 a.m. and lasted no more than 15 minutes. Mbugua added that this outage, which he described as “similar” to Monday’s failure, was actually helpful to the technicians working to determine Monday’s problems.
The Office of Information Technology noted an unscheduled outage between 11:25 a.m. and 1:21 p.m. Tuesday, according to its website.
On Monday at around 10:50 a.m., the Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol, which connects users to IP addresses, malfunctioned and wireless service became unavailable. Service was restored to most campus locations by 7 p.m. and had returned to normal status across campus by 10:30 p.m.
