Unsupported allegations against HEI

Regarding “Editorial: Don’t invest in HEI” (Dec. 12, 2011):

HEI prides itself on some of the highest employee satisfaction scores in the hospitality industry, we fuel local economic prosperity by investing in the communities where we operate, and our commitment to environmental stewardship and sustainability was recently recognized by winning numerous awards and by our inclusion in the Obama administration’s “Better Buildings Challenge."

We are committed to providing meaningful jobs and advancement opportunities to our employees.  We offer competitive wages and benefits including vacation, tuition reimbursement and an industry-leading wellness program, which in part is why tenure for our staff is nearly double the industry average.

Our employees are the heart of our company and the reason for our success. As the employer of over 5,500 employees and the operator of 41 hotels, we make every effort to ensure we comply with all labor laws and regulations. The factual data is clear: Of those allegations brought before the National Labor Relations Board, the vast majority were either found to be without any merit or were withdrawn by the claimant. HEI has never been found to be in violation of the National Labor Relations Act. HEI’s demonstrated performance in this area is superior to that of the collective performance of our industry peers.

Finally, contrary to what you state, to our knowledge no HEI investor has ever made an investment decision based on any allegations related to employment practices.

All of this information would have been readily available to you if your paper made any effort to contact HEI.  To date, The Daily Princetonian has not contacted HEI. It is our sincere hope that, in the future, your paper will contact us when you write about us.
