News & Notes: FBI, EPA chiefs to receive Alumni Day awards

The University presents the Woodrow Wilson Award to an undergraduate alumnus or alumna whose career exemplifies Woodrow Wilson’s idea of “Princeton in the nation’s service,” according to the website of the Alumni Association of Princeton University. Winners are chosen by the chair of the Alumni Council, the University Vice President and Secretary and the dean of the Wilson School.

Meanwhile, the Madison Medal recognizes a graduate school alumnus or alumna who “has had a distinguished career, advanced the cause of graduate education or achieved a record of outstanding public service,” the website reads.

Mueller has served as FBI director for 10 years. Nominated by former president George W. Bush, he assumed his duties just a week before the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks. Though his term should have ended this summer, the Senate extended his directorship through to 2013 in accordance with President Barack Obama’s wishes.

Jackson’s involvement with the EPA spans 24 years. She is the first African American to serve in the position of EPA administrator.
