OIT moves accounts to new server

In an effort to give University email account users the benefits of one of the most advanced and robust email system available, the Office of Information Technology is in the process of upgrading faculty, staff and student group emails from the IMAP to the more advanced Microsoft Exchange server.

All users of these addresses were sent email notifications by the OIT’s Exchange Project Team to log out of their accounts at 11 p.m. on Wednesday night and remain offline until 7 a.m., so that the account’s mail could be moved to its new server.

This new email infrastructure promises faster and more user-friendly email interfaces.

However, users may need to reconfigure their personal computer email programs, address books, mobile phone email access and other specific programs.

In addition, OIT added several Exchange user accounts to NetID accounts in order to facilitate these mailboxes’ migration, resulting in some users owning both an “@princeton.edu” account and an “@exchange.princeton.edu” account.

OIT technicians are available to aid any users with this change, though student accounts have not been moved and no email notifications should have been sent to student accounts.
