“The course is a links-style,” senior Kate Scarpetta said, “and the wind today made for some tough conditions. Wind is a variable that messes with every part of a player’s game.”
Freshman Kelly Shon led the Tigers with a tie for fourth place finish with a plus-11, 9 shots behind the tournament’s overall leader, Sandra Changkija of Nova Southeastern.
Senior Maggie Boberg also finished in the tournament’s top 20 scorers, at eighth place with a plus-12, 10 shots behind the leader. Scarpetta finished out with a plus-18, senior Rachel Blum with a plus-19 and junior Wonji Choi with a plus-22.
“It was tough out there today, but we held our own as a team,” Scarpetta added. “Our team has a reputation for being ‘muckers’ which means we play well when the conditions get worse.”
“This is one of our last tournaments of the season before Ivies,” Boberg said. “We are hoping to focus on what we need to [do] better individually to have the best team when we get to Atlantic City.”
“I’m looking forward to practicing more and getting my game in shape for the championship,” Scarpetta said. “I know each of my teammates is making a checklist of areas of their game that need the most work. “
It’s different for every player, so I can only speak for myself,” she continued. “Leading up to Ivies, collectively, each of us is just trying to get the most out of our practice and the tournament rounds before the championship.”
The Tigers only have one remaining tournament before the Ivy League Championship. The Tigers will travel to Rhode Island to play in the Brown Invitational next Sunday, April 10 through Monday, April 11. The Ivy League Championship takes place in Atlantic City, N.J. from April 22 to 24.
