In this early spring meet for the Tigers, members of the track and field team traditionally continue their transition from the indoor to outdoor seasons. If this meet is any indication, Princeton is already off to a hot start.
The men opened up their meet on Friday with a strong performance in the 3,000m steeplechase. Junior distance runner Don Cabral finished first with a time of eight minutes, 54.55 seconds, 5.56 seconds ahead of his nearest competition. Friday also saw a personal best in the 1,500m for the second straight week by junior distance runner Joe Stilin, who ran a 3:50.63 for fifth place.
The men continued their success on Saturday with several medal performances. Freshman sprinter Tom Hopkins was outstanding, winning both the long jump and the 100m dash. Princeton grabbed the top three places in the 100m, with Hopkins in first with a time of 10.91 seconds and sophomore sprinters Sebastian Steffen and Justin Reagor in second and third with times of 11.04 and 11.26 seconds, respectively.
Hopkins won the long jump at 6.91 meters while freshman jumper Omar Jarrett cleared 1.94 meters in the high jump to place third. Junior pole-vaulter Derek Hynes placed fourth in his event, clearing 4.6 meters.
Hopkins also placed second in the 200m dash, coming in at 21.68 seconds, while Steffen finished fourth. Senior hurdler Adam Thayer finished second in the 110m hurdles with a time of 14.70 seconds. Sophomore hurdler Richard Sheldon was right behind Thayer in third place in 14.75 seconds. Junior sprinter Nilan Schnure ran a personal best in the 400m hurdles in his second straight meet, running 55.28, a time that placed him third.
Princeton’s 4x100m relay team finished third. The team consisted of Hopkins, Steffen juniors Ivan Charbonneau and Ricky Kearney, and ran a total time of 42.30 seconds.
Senior thrower George Abyad won the shot put with his first throw, which went 16.03 meters. Abyad also won the discus, throwing 50.74 meters on his fourth throw. Senior thrower Craig Pearce threw a new personal best in the hammer throw, winning his event on his third throw, which went 63.97 meters.
The women started strong on Friday as well. Senior distance runner Sarah Cummings finished first in the 10,000m with a time of 34:44.45, almost two minutes faster than her previous race. Sophomore middle distance runner Abby Hewitt finished second at 36:28.39. Sophomore middle distance runner Greta Feldman placed second in the 1,500m with a time of 4:32.73, while freshman distance runner Marissa Cummings finished 10th in the 5,000m.
Saturday featured several Princeton medalists. Feldman won the 800m with a time of 2:11.46 and was followed by Tigers in four of the next five spots. Freshman distance runner Kristin Smoot and her classmate middle distance runner Kacie O’Neil finished second and third, running 2:12.70 and 2:12.94, respectively. Sophomore sprinter Melissa Zajdel finished fourth and freshman middle distance runner Molly Higgins came in sixth.
Freshman distance runner Claire Gallagher finished second in Saturday’s 1,500m at 4:43.55. Sophomore middle distance runner Alexis Mikaelian finished second in the 3000m with a time of 10:04.81.
Senior hurdlers Bianca Mathabane and Lauren Barber placed third and fourth in the 100m hurdles at 14.61 and 14.86 seconds, respectively. Sophomore sprinter Joie Hand finished third in the 400m hurdles at 1:03.01 and freshman sprinter Carrie Vuong placed just behind at 1:03.54. Vuong, Hand, junior sprinter Danielle Glaeser and freshman sprinter Jasmine Blocker formed Princeton’s 4x100m team that placed second with a time of 3:55.28.

Senior thrower Isabell von Loga placed fourth with her throw of 12.73 meters. Senior thrower Emma Ruggiero finished first among collegians in the hammer throw with a distance of 59.21 meters, beating her own school record. Billings finished second among collegians in the hammer throw at 53.34 meters. Freshman thrower Chelsea Cioffi placed third in the discus with her throw of 39.08 meters.

Freshman jumper Imani Oliver jumped 12.04 meters to win the triple jump with senior jumper Bianca Williams right behind her at 11.49 meters to take second. Senior jumper Tiffany Liu finished third in the long jump at 5.51 meters.
Sophomore pole-vaulters Lauren Tauscher and Tory Worthen cleared 3.55 meters to tie for third place in the pole vault, while freshman Samantha Anderson tied for sixth. Freshman Ashley Vandolah placed fifth in the javelin, throwing 35.82 meters in her first meet.
The men continue their season next weekend at the George Mason Invitational and Rutgers Invitational, while the women travel to Penn to compete in the Princeton-Yale-Penn meet.The men’s and women’s track and field teams continued to exhibit their strength and depth this weekend at the Sam Howell Invitational.
