Cantwell is currently in competition for a spot on the first varsity boat and enjoys crew’s high class status, the quirkiness of his teammates and their interesting traditions.
Q: What was your “welcome to college” moment?
A: My first day on campus the [lightweights] coach, Marty Crotty ’98, sent me an e-mail that said “Welcome to Princeton!” I’d definitely say that was my “welcome to college” moment.
Q: What is the greatest highlight of your sports career?
A: Eastern Sprints, 2008.
Q: Who is your quirkiest teammate, and why?
A: [Senior] Michael Traynor. That guy hasn’t been to a single practice in over a year.
Q: Who gets the most girls on your team and why?
A: [Senior heavyweight] Jack Lindeman because his girlfriend is super boring.
Q: What is the best part about being a rower on campus?
A: We’re more of a high society sport, which is nice.
Q: What is the worst part about being a rower on campus?

A: The Princeton cheerleaders don’t come to our races. The band does though.
Q: Which one of your teammates would make the best husband?
A: [Senior heavyweight] Nick O’Neill. That guy’s loaded.
Q: If you were your coach for a day, what would you do?
A: I’ve never thought about it. It sounds pretty boring.
Q: Do you or your team have any odd rituals?
A: No. If you’ve ever seen a group of grown men wearing Daisy Dukes, that’s not us.

A: I’m really into Spartacus right now; I’m thinking gladiatoring could be fun.

A: Any Lady Gaga, Kesha, Katy Perry or Vivaldi. His concertos are divine.
