The Editorial Board is responsible for determining the position of the ‘Prince' on matters affecting the Princeton campus. In the past six months, the Board has written about issues ranging from Eliot Spitzer '81's political demise to the University's expansion plans for Whitman College to sophomore dues at the eating clubs.

The Board convenes three times a week to discuss campus issues, work with other departments of the newspaper to gather information on editorial topics, take editorial positions and review draft editorials. To preserve the board's objectivity, the board deliberates behind closed doors, determines its positions independently and answers only to the Executive Editor for Opinion and the Editor-in-Chief.

Debates among board members are often passionate and heated.  While the board strives for unanimity, editorial positions are determined by majority vote.  Under certain circumstances, a unified minority may publish a dissenting opinion.

The board has always sought diverse perspectives on campus issues.  Current board members come to Princeton from across the United States and from abroad and reflect a broad spectrum of political philosophies and academic and extracurricular interests. But Board members do have a few things in common: We engage in campus life, involve ourselves deeply in in a wide range of extracurricular activities and are committed to investigating and discussing important campus issues.

The core mission of the board is to inspire discussion and action. Many Princeton students are by nature highly opinionated, independent thinkers. We seek to give insightful commentary on issues important to Princetonians. If you would like to help the board accomplish this mission, you should send an e-mail to opinion@dailyprincetonian.com before Sept. 25th to request an application.
