Accepting opinions

The 126th managing board of The Daily Princetonian has made a concerted effort to represent the views of different individuals and campus groups during the last five months. We have organized point-counterpoint columns as well as attracted new columnists to maintain a viewpoint balance. Campus groups, such as the LGBT and the Princeton Tory, have recognized our efforts.

We never exclude letters based on content or because they criticize the newspaper. In fact, we are pleased to receive these letters as they improve the paper's quality. These letters are published as frequently as possible. Because a letter did not appear in print, however, does not mean that its message was not heard. Letters reach our reporters and editors alike, alerting them to issues that may have been previously unaddressed.

The 'Prince' receives a high volume of well-written and constructive letters from its readers. We carefully consider each letter and make every effort to print as many responses as possible. Unfortunately, we are unable to print as many letters as we would like.

We accept letters of between 250 and 500 words in length. Though we appreciate longer letters and often run them, their size is restrictive and often prohibits their publication. Students or professors interested in writing a longer response should contact an editor.

We are committed to representing as many points of view as possible. We do not want our readers to feel discouraged from sending us letters or from reading our paper. The 'Prince' is always open to suggestions.

We encourage our readers to continue to submit their letters and e-mail ideas. From these communications, we continue to learn and strive to be better at our job — bringing you the news and facilitating discussion of important campus issues.
