'Prince' coverage inadequate

Last week Princeton caught the attention of CNN, KYW TV (Philadelphia), WHYY Radio (National Public Radio, Philadelphia), The New York Times, Associated Press, The Trenton Times, The Trentonian, The Star-Ledger, The Asbury Park Press, The Home News Tribune, The Princeton Packet and other media organizations. They were all reporting the Princeton Peace Network rally at Firestone Plaza on Monday, Oct. 8, which protested the U.S. bombing of Afghanistan. Between 80-120 students, staff, faculty and community members attended the event, which lasted for more than an hour.

Although the 'Prince' received the same press release as all of these other media organizations, it chose not to publish an article about the event. Two days after the rally, however, the 'Prince' printed two photographs — the smaller photo was of the larger Peace Rally (80-120 persons) and the larger photo was of a smaller pro-war rally (approximately 10-15). Refusing to give adequate coverage to an event that many other reputable news organizations covered in detail raises questions about whether the 'Prince' is simply unaware of major events happening on our own campus or whether it has a policy to censor the coverage of events with which it disagrees.
