Take time to vote

For those of you who have not yet cast your ballots, the editorial board of The Daily Princetonian encourages you to do so before the end of the day. We understand that you are busy — very busy. When you told yourself you were saving all that work for break, you should have specified which one — fall, winter or at this rate, more likely spring. You are behind in everything. You've piled school work in one corner of your room and laundry in the other. These piles are now Mt. Everest and mini-Mt. Everest, respectively. You are busy.

Busy. Busy. Busy.

But voting in today's election will be one of the most important things you make time for this semester. This presidential election promises to be the most closely contested campaign in decades. For many of us, it is the first presidential election in which we are eligible to vote. This is a unique opportunity for all of us. Whether you registered at home or here in Princeton, please exercise your right to vote.

As a matter of tradition, The Daily Princetonian does not endorse political candidates. We don't care if you are a Republican, a Democrat or an Independent. If you want to go to the polls just so you can write in Bill Clinton for a third term that's OK. Be Green, be Libertarian, be whatever you want — but don't be Undecided.

When your bitter, anarchist, militia-minded roommate tells you your vote doesn't count for anything — he's right. It counts for everything. It counts for everything you stand for and support. It counts for everything you believe in and everything you don't. It counts for what you want and what you need. That's got to count for something.
