Benjamin to be inducted into ITA Hall of Fame

Men's tennis head coach David Benjamin — who will coach his team for the final time tomorrow against Georgetown — will be inducted into the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Men's Hall of Fame on May 24 in Athens, Ga.

After 26 seasons at the helm of the Princeton program, Benjamin has built up a 362-161 record with the Tigers. When he arrived at the University in 1974, he was the youngest of Princeton's head coaches. Now he leaves as the most seasoned Tiger head coach. In all of those years, Benjamin's squads never finished with a losing record.

During his tenure, men's tennis has won seven Eastern Collegiate Tennis Association titles as well as seven Eastern College Athletic Conference crowns. Under his guidance, the 1979 and 1980 Princeton men's tennis teams cracked the national top-10 — the first and only Ivy League squads to do so.

After his coaching retirement, Benjamin will continue his current duties as the executive director of the ITA.
