One could say that the playoff bubble that the men's volleyball team was in has now burst. Heading into last night's match at New Jersey Institute of Technology, Princeton needed to win three of its last four matches. It has already lost one.
The Tigers (7-10 overall, 3-7 Eastern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association) lost to NJIT, 3-0. Princeton fell 15-11, 15-12, 15-13.
"The games were close," senior middle Tom Dowd said, "We didn't play badly, we just didn't play that well."
Once again, the Tigers had trouble playing away from Dillon Gym. With its road campaign complete, Princeton's road record stands at 3-8. Its inability to win on the road has plagued the team all year. The team's final three matches of the year — all must-wins — will be played at Dillon Gym.
With their backs now against the wall, the Tigers' task is simple, yet deceptively difficult — win.
Princeton returns to action tomorrow night when it takes on Concordia at 7:30 p.m. at Dillon Gym. The Tigers lost a 3-2 heartbreaker to Concordia Feb. 25 after letting a 2-1 lead disappear, haunted by their own mistakes. Princeton seeks revenge in a match it needs to win.
