Bryan Bunch ’09 was found dead Dec. 18 in Cobb County, Ga., in an apparent murder-suicide, The Marietta Daily Journal reported. Bunch allegedly used a handgun to shoot Sherrie Newton, 43, multiple times before committing suicide.
Newton’s husband discovered the bodies at his home around 5:30 p.m. last Wednesday and called the police. There was no sign of forced entry. The relationship between Bunch and Sherrie Newton is unclear, but investigators have not ruled out whether Bunch was a hired contractor working on the Newton property, according to The Daily Journal. Newton’s husband, who is reported to have discovered the bodies, told police he did not know Bunch.
Bunch lived a few miles away from the Newton home. Police said Bunch does not appear to have a criminal record. Due to the ongoing investigation, authorities have not released information on the owner of the gun or Bunch’s medical history.
The investigation is still ongoing, and final cause and manner of death will be determined by the Cobb County Medical Examiner’s Office.
More to come.
