BREAKING – Beyonce just surprised absolutely everyone and dropped a new studio album. Described as a “visual album,” BEYONCÉ the album consists of 14 songs and 17 fully finished videos. All the videos are highly individual, gorgeous pieces of art in a way that her previous music videos were not; my personal favorite so far is “Pretty Hurts,” which is a searing commentary on how “Perfection is a disease of the nation,” with a interesting storyline to match. The video as visual literature is ripe for interpretation — for example, can we talk about all those stars everywhere? The song itself is sick. The album’s closer, “Blue,” is searingly beautiful for another reason. I don’t want to spoil anything, but the video (and song, of course) is about exactly what it sounds like… Tears may or may not have shed. The entire album and the accompanying videos are absolutely amazing — but of course they is. It’s Beyonce, after all. Go on iTunes now and download the visual album.
